Here are a few of my favourite reads.

Gary Taubes – The Diet Delusion

‘A brilliant debunking of the popular misconceptions on health and diet that also takes a hard look at the corporate world of the diet industry’. Couldn’t have put it better myself.

Gary Taubes – Why We Get Fat – And What To Do About It.

Here’s a man who understands the value of research. Highly recommended if you want clarification on this complex but often muddled issue.

Dr Malcolm Kendrick – The Great Cholesterol Con

The title says it all: almost everything we are told about cholesterol and health is contrary to all the evidence.

Michael Pollan – In Defence of Food: The Myth of Nutrition and the Pleasures of Eating

A celebration of the love of real food.

Ben Goldacre – Bad Science

OK, so he doesn’t have much time for nutritional therapy, but this book is a timely reminder to us all to remain evidence-based and scientific in our approach. And let’s face it, a lot of nonsense makes the rounds in the world of nutrition.

Joanna Blythman – Bad Food Britain: How a Nation ruined its appetite

In case you want it spelt out to you, this book tells us just how bad our diet is, and tears strips off the food industry.

Colin Spencer – British  Food: An Extraordinary Thousand Years of History

If you love food history, as I do, you’ll find this fascinating.

Richard Wrangham  – Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human

Fascinating, eye-opening exploration of how humans evolved to our current form, with the help of fire.

Michael Crawford & David Marsh  – Nutrition and Evolution

This classic is a must for every student of nutrition.
